23 Megabytes a Second is the second mission in Ready or Not. The Los Sueños Police Department received a 911 call regarding a hostage situation at an apartment complex.

Mission Brief

Team Lead: Alright everyone, need your attention. Operators just received a 911 call from an individual within an apartment complex in San Uriel early this morning detailing a brewing hostage situation. It seems that Michael Williams has barricaded himself in his apartment along with his brother, Demarcus. He also shot and killed his mother, Cassandra Williams. The call was brief, but gave us information regarding his potential mental state.

Officer: Has anyone tried to regain contact with Michael?

Team Lead: The call bounced when attempted, and calls from negotiators outside have fallen on deaf ears. It sounds like Michael may be firing a weapon inside his room, and we’ve received multiple reports of gunfire from other individuals within the complex. The building has a single entry, through the main atrium. There’s also a second entry point through a fire escape nearby, which should allow quick access to the other levels without exposure to your teams within the atrium. The Watch Commander is on scene and has patrol holding perimeter positions, TEMS is staging at the command post. Currently, they’re awaiting our arrival to make entry, as the situation has been deemed dangerous given no communication can be established.

Officer: Do we know of any other threats within the space?

Team Lead: Michael’s apartment is number 14, and so far we’ve managed to confirm that rooms 16, 11, and 12 are all currently inhabited but closed off. Those residents have either been evacuated or are sheltering in place. However, we were unable to make contact with apartments 13 and 15, both of which are under the ownership of Michael Williams at this time. It is unknown if he is still barricaded with his family in 14 or has moved into one of the other rooms to ambush. We are not aware of any other threats, it seems to just be one guy. Alright, let’s roll.

Caller: My name is Michael Williams. I’m currently in Apartment 14 in the San Uriel Condominiums with my piece of shit brother. I’m calling you because I’ve killed my mother, and I’m going to kill my brother, and then I’m going to kill myself. So, don’t come in.

The Map

The server room, located on the second floor.

The condominium consists of three floors. There are two points of entry: the main entrance or a fire escape that goes up to the second floor and third floor.

First Floor

The first floor contains no enterable rooms and is simply an atrium leading to a stairway that splits into two. Civilians and suspects can sometimes be present here. Suspects can spot and shoot from the upper levels, so the player and their team must take extreme caution when entering from here.

Second Floor

The second floor consists of one enterable apartment unit. The team can enter this unit through the hallway or from the fire escape stairwell. The unit contains a large server farm with servers in every room, and is a soft objective. The room is guarded by a couple of armed suspects, one wearing a Watt College sweater. The farm also seems to be illegally tapping electricity as cables connect directly to a nearby electricity pole.

Third Floor

The third floor has two enterable apartment units. One unit can be entered through the hallway or from the fire escape stairwell. Cassandra Williams will be in this unit, and one or more suspects will usually be in the same unit as well. The second unit is only enterable through the hallway. Michael Williams, Demarcus Williams, and a random number of suspects will be inside. Two soft objectives are located in Michael’s room; the prohibited images of minors are on a nightstand next to his bed, and the suspect’s PC is located on Michael’s desk which is in the farthest corner of the room.

Evidence

• Pikumiku Chan: A rare figurine of the anime character Pikumiku from the popular animated series Shinigami. Only 50 of these figures were released, many gifted from Hexon Studios to popular streamers, including Michael. The item was sequestered by forensics due to the number of different DNA sources on the figurine. Might wanna wear gloves for this one.
• HRX Jotminer: One of Mindjot’s lesser-known side-projects: The HRX Bitcoin Miner, is capable of generating profits of almost $800 daily. Considered a highly desired item, the HRX Miner was only available and intended for very few content creators, mainly creators who participated in a promotional Bitcoin scam spearheaded by Mindjot. Knowing the lack of moderation by OpenHouse, streamers who participated remained on the platform cashing in on their credulous fanbase falling for the scam. While also generating new money via their latest equipment.
• Police Report: A police report detailing the events of Michael’s sexual misconduct investigation. Much of this situation and the controversy that followed were forgotten, with the charges put against him having been dropped entirely despite insurmountable evidence pointing towards its legitimacy.

Trivia

• Despite what the 911 call said, Cassandra Williams, who lives next to Michael’s apartment, is seen alive. It is assumed that the call was most likely a swatting.
• Some of the suspects reuse the models as the extra robbers on Thank You, Come Again.
• In the apartment where Michael Williams’ mother is located, there is a vent in the bathroom that allows you to throw grenades into the adjacent room, which happens to be the room Michael is in.
