Cornelius Fremont is a politician representing the state of California in the United States Senate and is a candidate in the 2028 U.S. Presidential Election. On October 1, 2025, radicalized military veterans known as The Left Behind attempted to assassinate Fremont with a sniper rifle and a light machine gun, killing six attendees and leaving Fremont critically injured. The day after his assassination attempt, Left Behind sleeper agents inside the United States Secret Service took Fremont's family hostage. Fremont's current status is unknown.
Biography[]
Not much is known about Senator Fremont's personal life. Fremont, and his wife Lucille, seem to be devout Protestant Christians and they have 4 adult children. The Fremont family seems to be wealthy, and extremely powerful in American politics.
Politics[]
Information about Fremont's political leanings are few and far between. He seems to support small government and budget cuts - a position usually supported by the Republican Party. However, Fremont is from California, a extremely progressive state that is widely regarded as a stronghold for the Democratic Party - the likelihood of a Californian senator being a Republican in 2025 seems unlikely.
At some point before October 2025, Fremont had announced he was planning to run for president in the 2028 Presidential Election.
Assassination Attempt[]
Background[]
Even before the events of Ready or Not, Fremont had already acquired a negative reputation in the city of Los Sueños because he supported a bill that cut Veterans Affairs (VA) Hospital funding. This decision caused widespread protests throughout the city, and potentially the state, for at least 10 months. The bill successfully passed legislation and the VA hospitals, which were already struggled with a lack of funding, were defunded even more. A small group of veterans, already feeling like they had been abandoned by the very government they served, became radicalized. This group united under the banner of The Left Behind and began secretly plotting their revenge.

Fremont held a rally at the Brisa Cove Memorial Park in the Brisa Cove neighborhood of Los Sueños on October 1, 2025. The purpose of the rally is unknown. At some point before the shooting, an unknown source leaked detailed information to the Left Behind, including the route of Fremont's motorcade, the location of police blockades, and the locations of Fremont and his security during the speech.
Senator Fremont began his rally at some point before 11:00 AM. Unbeknownst to him or his security team, the Left Behind had traversed to the top floor of the Brisa Cove Luxury Apartments building and secured every apartment. In the process, two members of staff were shot and 4 residents were held hostage along with a handful of staff members. Anticipating an eventual police response, the Left Behind began setting up sniper positions and setting up explosive traps on doorways. A Left Behind sniper set up a position on the western side of the building, allowing a clear view of the rally.
Shooting[]
A member of the Left Behind opened fire with a sniper rifle, narrowly missing Fremont. The second shot struck Fremont in the upper right arm, after which his security team rushed him towards the motorcade. Afterwards, the Left Behind opened fire with an M249 machine gun in an attempt to prevent his escape. Fremont was successfully evacuated but left in critical condition. Two LSPD officers and three civilians were killed. At 11:00 LSPD SWAT entered the 13th floor of the apartment building, successfully subduing all suspects.
Clemente Hotel Hostage Crisis[]

Although Fremont survived, he was hospitalized. His family was placed under the protection of the United States Secret Service and was relocated to the penthouse of the Clemente Hotel in Downtown Los Sueños. Later that day, Fremont attempted to contact his wife, Lucille, telling her to contact an associate of his at the National Security Agency, fearing an imminent threat to his family's safety. His wife did not receive the call in time to prevent the following attack.
Crisis[]
The day after assassination attempt - at around 3:30 AM - Left Behind sleeper agents inside the Secret Service took Fremont's family hostage in an attempt to get Fremont to "admit what [he'd] done, or the blood of [his] family will be on [his] hands." Two non-corrupt members of the Secret Service were shot and injured while protecting the family, and two innocent members of hotel staff were mortally wounded. The family was rounded up and moved to the penthouse's living room, where they were planned to execute the family on live TV.
At around 4:00 AM, October 2, LSPD SWAT breached the penthouse, subduing all suspects and rescuing all civilians. The families status after 2025 is unknown.

- Fremont is never mentioned again after Sins of the Father. It is possible he retired from politics.
