Motto of the LSPD
The Los Sueños Police Department (LSPD) is a major faction in Ready or Not. They are the primary law enforcement agency of the city of Los Sueños, with the game focusing on their Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit.

The LSPD's Headquarters is also where their SWAT unit is based, and features an indoor range, a shoot house, a locker room, an evidence locker, and an operations office. Much like the city they serve, the LSPD seems to be somewhat dysfunctional, and appears to experience great difficulties in combating the city's skyrocketing crime rates and general decline.

History[]

Not much is known about the history of the LSPD, but badges state it was founded in 1869.

Organization[]

Office of the Chief[]

The department is headed by Chief Galo Alvarez, a decorated 35-year veteran of the force. The Chief's office is located in the same building as the SWAT team, indicating that the Metropolitan Division and the LSPD Administration share an HQ.

Detective Bureau[]

The Detective Bureau is responsible for investigating and solving serious crimes in the city of Los Sueños. The following are known divisions of the LSPD's Detective Bureau:

  • Narcotics Division - Investigating and enforcing laws related to the illegal drug trade within Los Sueños. They are mentioned in Buy Cheap, Buy Twice.

Counter-Terrorism Unit[]

Responsible for investigating bombings and other terrorist acts in Los Sueños; unknown if they are part of Detective Bureau. They are mentioned in Neon Tomb and Relapse.

Cyber-Crimes Team[]

Responsible for investigating and solving crimes that fully or partially are committed online; unknown if part of Detective Bureau. They are mentioned in Sinuous Trail, The Spider, and Valley of the Dolls.

Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force[]

Responsible for tackling the ever-growing issue of online child pornography and child abuse: unknown if part of Detective Bureau and/or Cyber-Crimes Team. They are mentioned in The Spider.

Auto-Theft Task Force[]

Responsible for solving car theft in Los Sueños and dismantling international car-theft rings; unknown if part of Detective Bureau. Mentioned in Buy Cheap, Buy Twice.

D Platoon/Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT)[]

The LSPD SWAT team, codenamed D Platoon, is a specialized unit within the LSPD designed to handle high-risk situations that are beyond the capabilities of regular patrol officers. The team are deployed to scenes such as barricaded suspects, hostage situations, high-risk warrant services, and active shootings. They are present in every mission, as they are the protagonists of Ready or Not.

Ranks[]

The following ranks are the only ones mentioned in Ready or Not. It is highly probable that there are many more ranks in the LSPD.

Ranks (in descending order)[]

  • Chief of Police
  • Colonel
  • Commander
  • Captain
  • Lieutenant
  • Lead Detective
  • Detective
  • Sergeant
  • Police Officer III+1
  • Police Officer

Supervisory levels (in descending order)[]

  • Watch Commander

Fallen Officers[]

Memorial[]

A memorial for fallen LSPD officers is located inside LSPD Headquarters, showing the name of deceased officers engraved in the wall. The memorial shows that at least 128 officers have been killed in the line of duty; it unlikely memorial contains the name of every single officer who was ever killed in the line of duty.

Game Events[]

In the roughly year-long time span of Ready or Not, it appears that a substantial amount of LSPD officers are killed, with many more being injured; from February 2025 to February 2026, at least 9 officers are shot and killed, with many more being critically injured with their fate ultimately unknown. For comparison, the LAPD lost 10 officers from 2020-2024[1], only one of whom was murdered.

It is worth mentioning that multiple non-LSPD law enforcement officers are killed as well: one Watt Community College police officer is killed in Elephant and multiple loyal Secret Service agents were killed in Sins of the Father.

Jose J. Ross[]

In the HQ's SWAT room, a small memorial plaque can be found on a shelf, dedicated to Officer Jose J. Ross. The plaque is hard to read, but it can be determined that Officer Ross was likely killed in the line of duty and received 3 medals including the highest LSPD award - the Medal of Valor. It can be assumed he was a SWAT officer considering his plaque is located in the SWAT offices.

Trivia[]

  • The LSPD is based on the real Los Angeles Police Department, per their similar uniforms, vehicles, motto, and structure.
  • An rank insignia identical to the LAPD's Police Officer III+1 rank insignia can be found on an LSPD officer, proving that the two departments share very similar rank structure.
  • LSPD calls their Narcotics Detectives "Agents".
  • Despite most cops at the Headquarters being the rank of Sergeant, dialogue subtitles almost exclusively refer to them as "Officer".
