A data-storage facility run by @Mindjot. Scrubbed IPs from content found in the residence of a now-convicted pedophile led to the distribution source of explicit child pornography.

Description of "Sinuous Trail"

Sinuous Trail is the seventh playable mission in Ready or Not. D-Platoon have been dispatched to serve a high risk search warrant at a Mindjot Datacenter suspected of being used by a child pornography ring.

The Story[]

Following Mindjot’s filing for bankruptcy, the board of executives made the decision to liquify all of their assets, mainly by selling their higher quality servers in order to replace them with cheaper ones imported from Asia, as detailed by a corporate email that can be found inside the Admin Room in the first floor of the building. By the time D Platoon raids the Datacenter, the new servers have already been delivered and had begun their installation, hence the presence of civilian staff, as well as Mindjot’s private security in the area. However, the new servers’ poor capabilities would lead to a myriad of errors and difficulties for the staff, which is indicated by the heavy presence of bluescreens in the map’s several TVs and desktop monitors

As detailed by the mission briefing, the mission takes place after the raid on Michael Williams’ Residence, in which a number of hard drives and a Mindjot crypto miner were siezed. These would then be searched by the LSPD, leading to the finding of certain IP addresses that would point at one of the many Datacenters owned by Mindjot as a direct distribution point for child pornography.

The Datacenter was previously the target of two robberies where the culprits were dressed as Police Officers. These culminated in the kidnapping of staff and the deaths of several security personnel. As a result of this, guards on the premises are heavily armed, clad in body armour and will not go down quietly.

Mission Brief[]

Team Lead: Alright, listen up. We’ve got a warrant service on a Mindjot Datacenter in Colina Beach. It’s inland, pretty dusty, it’s also pretty dim outside. The facility is located on 52 East Temple Hills Street, and we’ve got multiple entrances for this one. Side 1 will lead us into the lobby, side 2 contains an access doorway, and side 4 has a loading bay entrance that leads into the data storage areas. An element on-scene has also determined that there’s a possible entrance on the rooftop that leads down into a second level. Now, we’re dealing with a lot of expensive hardware in the structure. As you all know, Mindjot is on the down-slope, so we don’t expect much recourse if shit gets broken, but we wanna be mindful of property damage. It will also limit the capabilities of our cyber crime teams if they have to work with a bunch of destroyed drives.

Threats inside the facility are unknown. Mindjot has a security layer that is well-armed, and on-edge. We don’t know if these guys have also been paid off by whoever is running the show here. I mean times are tough, and all it takes is a little money to keep desperate people floating. I want to stress that this facility has had a number of robberies recently, some by individuals posing to be police, and a kidnapping that led to the death of one of the security staff not too long ago. If these guys aren’t aware of what’s going on at the facility, they could very well be on edge enough to send rounds your way out of fear. If you guys keep it slow, use your compromised authority to bang rooms and limit the security team’s effectiveness, we shouldn’t have a hard time gaining control of the situation.

Because of the prior robbery where the suspects were disguised as police, we’re going to have marked units visible and we’re going to start loud hailing as soon as we’re in position, if they don’t surrender, I’d take that as a sign they might know something about what’s on that hardware they’re guarding.

The datacenter is also running a skeleton crew, so it’s likely we’ve got a couple of civilians within the compound. These guys all look very similar, so check your shots and be mindful of what is beyond your target. Any questions?

Officer: Is this tied to that Streamer we detained last week?

Team Lead: It looks like it. We scrubbed metadata from the child pornography on his computer that pointed towards this place being the source. Something big is going on here, so we’ve gotta make sure not to damage anything that might get us closer to nabbing whoever is in charge here. Alright, time is tight. Gear up and let’s roll out. Rally is on Truman Boulevard and Temple Hills, we’ll gather there and get any fresh information from the other element on-scene. TEMS is also en-route.

The Map[]

The map consists of the Datacenter’s exterior perimeter, which is mainly comprised of the main entrance, the delivery bay and the backlot parking. The main entrance serves as the spawn point for the players, while the backlot parking has both a backdoor that leads into a hallway leading to the main server room and staff area, as well as a staircase leading to the building’s second floor. To the left of the backdoor, there is a staff ladder leading to the building’s roof.

The delivery bay serves as a flanking route that leads directly into the building’s electrical room, which itself can serve as a direct route into the main server room. However, this area is more exposed, with the only cover available being the delivered servers, boxes and vehicles, leaving players exposed to potential enemies looking down from the building’s roof.

The main entrance leads directly into the building’s main lobby, which itself branches off in 3 directions. To the left, the main reception, which itself leads into the kitchen and staff area. To the front, the main server room of the building, overlooked by the second floor offices. To the right, the electrical room and the bathrooms.

The main server room and the second floor offices serve as the focal point of the map, featuring almost claustrophobic, narrow spaces between server racks, all of it right beneath not just the second floor window, but also beneath catwalks hovering right above the server room, all of which is likely to be filled with armed hostiles and civilians alike.

Items[]

  • Keycard: On this map, there is a green and white keycard you can find. This keycard allows you to open locked doors. Such as, The Meeting Room, The Electrical Room, and The Staging Area. Sometimes, multiple keycards may spawn, and there are multiple spawns. One spawn is on the black counter with the computers on the main desk, for some reason, this keycard will spawn in the counter, but still may be picked up. If you continue through to what looks like a break room, you can find another keycard next to a bag of chips, and one floating next to a sink. This is not needed.

Evidence[]

  • Suspicious Storage Unit: A painted high density storage unit used at the Mindjot facility datacenter. It features a strange hand-painted set of initials with an accompanying sticky note that outlines its potential contents.
    • The initials are “AV” which is presumed to mean Amos Voll.
    • The sticky note reads: “At request of the user, propagate multiple backups to Mj Cloud servers and to physical storage. Requires approx. 250tb drive. Content of this storage unit set includes a multitude of encrypted images. Treat sensitively.”
  • Resignation Letter: Printed resignation letter on an A4 sheet of paper. The letter describes the facility manager’s current outlook on Mindjot and his discontent with many of the suspected illegal activities occurring at the time of its writing.
    • The letter reads:
      • “To whom it may concern, I am sending this as a submission of my resignation from the position on Storage Manager at Mindjot. After much consideration and reflection, I have come to the rather easy decision that I can no longer work for the company. As you are aware, Mindjot has been a hub for finding work in a pinch, and it is currently facilitating the outsourcing of over 48% of shortterm labor projects in the city. Though this was a car-cry from our original goals before congress passed their Tax Labor bill, I still felt very proud of what was achieved. While I believe that this was a positive development for the company and the community it serves, I have recently become aware of some troubling practices that have led me to question the ethics of the company's operations. Specifically, I have reason to suspect that Mindjot is being used for illegal activities, including the facilitation of prostitution, trafficking, and exploitation. While I have no direct evidence of these activities, I have observed a pattern of behavior that suggests that the company is not operating within legal and ethical boundaries. I cannot in good conscience continue to work for a company that may be involved in illegal activities. I believe that it is my duty to report these concerns to the appropriate authorities and to distance myself from the company. Do not reach out to me. My last day will be the 10th of February, 2025. Sincerely, Phil Ledger.”
  • Ransom Note: A letter written with newspaper clippings and an attached image of what appears to be a Datacenter employee, Keith Arnold, who is still yet to be located by police. It is unknown who sent the letter, or its age.
    • The note reads: “Bring data drives racks 500-551 to 128 North Hills within seven days. Do not call police or trap else you get Keith Arnold’s head arrive at door of Mindjot Facility.”
    • Attached is a small newspaper clipping dated 11/8/2023 which reads: “NO CORPSE FOUND: ...still have not found the remains of the five missing hikers who went hiking in the Los Suenos National Forest, investigators are remaining hopeful they will fin...”

Trivia[]

  • It is shown that Brixley Talent Time is connected to Mindjot, due to one of the computers showing the Mindjot logo with some messages in Brixley Talent Time. Also both places were being raided for illicit pornography.
  • Found in the Admin Room, there is a email pulled up showing that the Chief Systems and Network Director of Mindjot is a person named Regner Blok-Anderson. Regner Blok-Anderson is a real person who has friends that work at VOID. As of July 21, 2023, he is the Senior Platform Engineer at a company named Splash Damage. He is active on twitter.
  • In the corner of one of the posters, there is a QR code, which when scanned, leads to this image.
  • Suspects have high morale and are not likely to surrender in normal circumstances, so those looking to arrest all suspects alive and unharmed should bring a good arsenal of less-lethal equipment and officers that have traits relating to suspect morale and surrendering.
  • When arrested, suspects will demand the SWAT team show proof of them being actual law enforcement officers. This is due to previous robberies on the facility by police impersonators.
